What to Write on an Anniversary Card

by nakika 02 Mar 2026

An anniversary is a special day, and wanting to write the perfect message might make you a little nervous. But don't worry! By following a few simple suggestions, you'll soon be able to write a memorable message that truly touches the other person's heart.

Be yourself. Don't overthink making the words on the card sound fancy or different from how you usually talk. Use your most natural tone of voice—there's no need to force formality, poetic language, or extraordinary wit (unless that's genuinely who you are). After you finish writing, try reading it out loud. If it sounds smooth and natural, you've got it right.

Add a personal touch. The pre-written messages on anniversary cards sold in stores are beautiful, but adding your own words is the only way to create a message that's uniquely about them and your shared story. If it's for your own anniversary, think about the unique experiences you've had together. If you're writing to congratulate others, think about their usual dynamic as a couple. Including details that only you would know will make your message feel much warmer.

Don't set limits for yourself. Don't worry about whether the message should be long or short, casual or serious, deeply emotional or playful. Everyone has a different style, and there are no hard and fast rules. As long as it feels right to you, it's probably the correct choice.

Not sure what to write? You can start from these angles: If you're writing to your own partner, talk about love, gratitude, the things you've experienced together, and how your feelings have evolved and grown over the years. If you're congratulating others, offer your best wishes, share what you admire about them, or mention the special understanding you see between them.

ONE

Anniversary Wishes for Each Other

When this day belongs to just the two of you, the pressure to make everything perfect can sometimes feel overwhelming. But what matters most is always speaking from the heart and sharing your truest feelings—if you need some inspiration with wording, we've prepared plenty of suggestions in the categories below.

TWO

Anniversary Wishes for Your Spouse or Partner

There's probably no one in this world who understands you quite like your partner, and no one who loves you as deeply as they do. Your wedding anniversary is the perfect time to reflect on everything you've experienced together and tell them just how precious their companionship is.

Examples:

"Happy [eleventh] anniversary, my love. My love for you grows deeper with each passing year."

"Fourteen years of marriage, and it's been one adventure after another! You've made every moment worthwhile and filled with happiness."

"Every day, I find something new about you to love."

"How lucky I am to have you and your love. Thank you for putting up with me for another year!"

"This is our [fourth] anniversary, and also our first celebrating as parents. I'm so grateful to begin this new adventure with someone as amazing as you. Looking forward to all the love, laughter, and surprises ahead."

"Your face is still the view I never tire of."

"Another 365 days together, and here we are at our anniversary. You make me laugh, you inspire me, you teach me, and you help me grow. So glad we're still holding hands."

"I never imagined love could be this beautiful."

"Still together. And it feels wonderful."

"You captured my heart back then, baby, and it still belongs completely to you today."

"Love you—even when my way of showing it is awkward and funny."

"To the one who makes me a better version of myself, happy anniversary. Seriously, I'm so lucky to have you."

"Marrying you was the smartest decision I ever made."

THREE

To My Wife on Our Anniversary

Every marriage is unique, and every couple writes their own story in their own way, becoming each other's gentlest support. So, when writing your anniversary message to your wife, try to remember the reasons you've made it this far together—and the ways she has made your world so much brighter and warmer.

Examples:

"Eight years ago today, you made me the happiest person on the planet. And to this day, I still believe I'm the luckiest."

"A woman like you is a once-in-a-lifetime find. Lucky for me, I knew it from the start. Happy anniversary, my love."

"The day I married you, I knew you were the one I wanted to spend my life with. Now, I understand even more—you're also the mother I admire most, the comfort I lean on, and the warm heart of our home. I've never been more grateful that we're together."

"I'm moved by your strength, in awe of your wisdom, warmed by your love—and so thankful you're my wife."

"Happy anniversary to my wife—you still take my breath away, just like you did on our wedding day."

"This home we've built, this life we share, and the better version of myself—they all exist because I have you by my side."

FOUR

To My Husband on Our Anniversary

Maybe he's the type whose love runs deep but is rarely spoken aloud. Or maybe he's the kind who'd shout his love from the rooftops—if the neighbors wouldn't mind. Either way, your husband should know that he will always have the softest place in your heart.

Examples:

"Happy anniversary—with all my love, to the strongest, kindest, most wonderful, and most incredible man in the world."

"I still remember the heartbeat I felt when you got down on one knee. Of course I'd say yes—I'd say it a thousand times over. Yes to marrying you, yes to the life we've built, and yes to saying it again and again: I love you."

"My husband, you are so dependable, so captivating, and you love this family with such devotion… I'm so lucky you're mine."

"Loving you the way I do is the greatest fortune of my life. Happy anniversary, my dear."

"My deepest love. My closest friend. My dearest partner. My most treasured husband. You are all of this to me. I love you—not just today, but always."

"We've walked through countless bright days together, and we've weathered a few difficult ones too—but through every season, you're still the first person I want to see when I wake up."

Because you appreciate them, and we appreciate you. Happy Gifting!

FIVE

Anniversary wishes for a boyfriend or girlfriend

Anniversaries aren't just for married couples! If you share a date that holds special meaning for both of you—whether it's the day you first met, the day of your first date, or the day you decided to make it official—it's definitely worth celebrating.

Examples:

"I can't believe how far we've come in such a short time, I love every moment with you!"
"The way we feel together is the best thing. I'm so lucky to love you like this."
"It was fate that we met... and got together. I'm so incredibly happy for us."
"A couple like us doesn't come along every day. We are so lucky and so grateful."
"You are truly beautiful, inside and out. You mean practically everything to me. Happy anniversary, my love."
"Thanking fate for bringing us together, and toasting to countless more amazing times ahead."
"I could just stay like this, with you, forever."
"I'm so happy we tackle (and enjoy) all of life's ups and downs together."
"This (one) year with you has flown by... but having you here and loving you feels absolutely wonderful."
"Happy anniversary to my (girlfriend), who never fails to make me laugh uncontrollably."
"【3 years】 together means countless wonderful moments, precious memories, and so much love."
"From the day we first met (at that restaurant) to today, every day falling for you has been magical."
"Happy first date anniversary! You completely won me over that day, and you still do to this very day!"

SIX

Based on Faith and the Bible Anniversary Wishes

Shared faith is an important part of many relationships, and your handwritten message can be a beautiful way to celebrate that. A faith-based message can express gratitude, describe how your partner helps you in your faith journey, or even include your favorite Bible verses.

Examples:

"So grateful God gave me you to love."
"Love is the greatest blessing."
"I thank God for you every year, every month, every week, and every day."
"You are everything I prayed for and more."
"With each year, you become more of an angel to me."
"God knew I needed someone like you."
"You are my love and my peace."
"God created our relationship in His image, too. I am so thankful for our blessings."
"Life is so much better with your love and your faith to guide me."

Bible Verse Ideas:

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God." (1 John 4:7)
"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." (Ecclesiastes 4:9–12)
"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." (1 Peter 4:8)
"He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord." (Proverbs 18:22)
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." (1 Corinthians 13:4–7)
"Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other." (Psalm 85:10)

SEVEN

Milestone Anniversary Wishes

Certain anniversaries—especially the 1st, 5th, 10th, 20th, 25th (Silver), 30th, 40th (Ruby), 50th (Golden), 55th, and 60th (Diamond)—are considered particularly significant and important. Reaching these important milestones is a remarkable achievement, deserving of recognition in your handwritten message. You can also write about what this stage of the relationship means to you, as you look back on the past and anticipate the future.

Examples:

You and me, twenty-five years of marriage, looking back on the road we've traveled, suddenly realize that we have long since written each other into the very bones of our lives. The road ahead is still long, but with you by my side, I am never afraid.

Ten years is merely the first chapter of our story. Those moments of exchanging smiles, those comfortable silences—they all tell me that the best part has just begun.

A 25-year relationship is the perfect age—the rawneness of youth has faded, yet it still feels young; it has weathered storms, yet grown stronger. This means we still have plenty of time to spend freely, and countless mornings to wake up to together.

Half a century of weathering storms together, I've watched us go from black hair to white, from passionate intensity to deep serenity. Time has changed many things, but the one thing it hasn't changed is the light in our eyes when we look at each other.

Forty years is long enough for a child to grow up, long enough for a dream to blossom and bear fruit. Our love has grown into something that the younger generations can look up to—not perfect, but genuine; not blazing and intense, but steady and enduring.

These twenty years have been the most grounded time of my life. Not because the journey has been smooth sailing, but because no matter how fierce the storm, when I turn back, you are always there.

Thirty years have passed, and yet, on some ordinary afternoon, I'll still watch your busy figure and remember that "I do" from our wedding day. It turns out fairy tales can be real, as long as we hold on tight enough.

Five years—such a short time, it feels like I only just held your hand yesterday; five years—such a long time, I can no longer remember what life was like without you.

Twenty years—who would have thought we could be this happy for so long? If I had to find a reason, it's probably that I decided from the very first day to spend the rest of my life loving you well.

That first year was a collection of countless "firsts": the first argument and reconciliation, the first time changing for each other, the first time knowing for sure—it's you, for the rest of my life.

For forty years, we built dreams, raised children, and fell in love with each other all over again countless times amidst the daily grind. Here's to the next forty years, please guide me once more.

Thirty years ago, I thought I was the luckiest person in the world; thirty years later, I understand that this luck wasn't a given—it was something you gave me with each day's companionship, making me a better person.

Fifty years of growth and change mean we are no longer the nervous young people standing on the red carpet. But every version of you is worthy of a lifetime of my love. You are the one who made me who I am today.
